MediaTek and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) announced a fast charging worldwide certification program to certify products with MediaTek Pump Express Plus™ (PE+) technology inside.
Pump Express Plus is a fast charging technology for devices powered by MediaTek processors that enables a 75 percent battery capacity charge in approximately 30 minutes. With UL’s stringent certification program in place, AC/DC adapter OEM’s can run their products through the program to receive MediaTek’s Pump Express Plus certification. Device certification also provides a guarantee for end-consumers that charging works as intended, quickly and safely.
“MediaTek is accelerating the delivery of leading technology and innovation through all aspects of our business—including, this important area of power. Through this partnership with UL, we are giving everyone in the ecosystem the confidence that their devices have been properly tested and certified by the world leader in testing. This program will help to drive the adoption of devices with Pump Express Plus an innovative new charging standard,” said Jeffrey Ju, Senior Vice President of MediaTek.
MediaTek Pump Express Plus was designed to maximize charging efficiency by allowing for a maximum output current of 12V through a standard USB adapter, and transmission power up to 15 watts or above. Through this cooperation with UL, chip providers, power suppliers, and mobile devices makers using Pump Express Plus must go through UL’s premier testing program to demonstrate they are in compliance with the latest global safety charging requirements.
“We are very supportive of technology leaders like MediaTek, who continuously pursue innovation and seek to improve global safety standards, by promoting new technologies to partners and customers,” said Barry Yu, General Manager for Greater China, Consumer Technology Division, UL.
“With extensive experience in fast charging and the global technical network, UL developed a testing program that assessed and ultimately approved MediaTek’s technology against strict guidelines for voltage, current, and temperature. As a result, end users can enjoy their electronics products with more reliable charging performance”, added by Barry Yu.
